I have a 1992 Eagle Talon TSi AWD 5speed. Often times when the transmission is cold, it will grind when I shift from first to second. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

you can shift slower, or change to a better tranny fluid (redline, BG syncroshift, or GM syncromesh) but ultimately you will need to replace the syncro, which means taking the transmission off and having it rebuilt.

just shift slow when it is cold. if that doesnt work then you can double clutch it. i had the same problem in one of my cars and i put redline in it. the grinding almost stopped. its good shit and a lot cheaper the syncromesh.

When my old tranny was grinding in second it seemed to be ok if you shift fast into gear... then it didnt grind... if I shfted too slow it would catch... but yea then I had it rebuilt.

Isn't that normal for a dsm? Mine does it too. In cold weather, it doesn't even want to go back into first. Yeah, you will need to replace the synchro like me. Double clutching helps me though. Shifting quicker isn't as bad either sometimes (racing) depending how far it is gone.

Thanks for the info. I'll try redline and see if that helps.
