Ok, my altrenator went out on my 1g, is it hard to rebuild them or is it better to just buy one. anyone have any information on this sort of thing?

It's easier to just buy a different one. You could rebuild it, but if you're asking if it's difficult or not, you probably shouldn't try to rebuild it. You could take it to an electric shop that rebuilds them but they wouldn't give you the same warranty as an auto parts store would.

I bought one for $106 and it has a limited lifetime warranty. I've had it replaced a few times because it got messed up, but if you can do the work taking out and putting it back in, it's not that bad a deal. And of course now that I have my power steering taken out it's ten times easier!!

Ok, i was playin with a couple altrenators today. Is it just the brushes that wear out after time or what else can go wrong with them?

Most of the time it's the voltage regulator (the thing with the fins on it behind the rear cover). But over time the brushes will wear out.

If you have the money, replace it. I would rather buy a new one now then have to pull it out three times because I wanted to save a few bucks.
