Is there information on this, I can't remember exactly but I believe it is good to use the internals from a 3 bolt in a 4 bolt.

I ask this because I have a 3 bolt rear end currently in my car and a 4 bolt waiting to go in, so this would be the perfect time to do something like this.

Thanks
Aaron

IIRC, you can put the 4 bolt gears inside a 3 bolt diff...a few of GVR4.org people have done it. I'll try to find the thread and link it here.

Thanks man. I'm probably just gonna run the 4-bolt as-is, but this is something I've always wondered about doing.

What is the reasoning behind this?

wondering this also, is the 3 bolt casing lighter? or something of this sort maybe, interesting

Mr. Lacroix has done this before. I believe it's the 3-bolt pinion in the 4-bolt housing make for a stronger set up.

For the Galant VR4 guys it works well to swap the 4 bolt diff into the 3 bolt housing, keeping the 4ws is a plus. I heard a while back the 3 bolt ring and pinion is stronger then the 4 bolt. It takes some more time installing the 4 bolt diff, setting the back lash and gear pattern.

I found for my uses a stock 4-bolt will be fine. Time to flush and fill.

Thanks guys.
