Looking for some opinions on 50 or 56 trim turbos and how the spool is. Also, whether to go internal or external gating. I would like to keep the car very streetable so somthing with quick spool would be nice.

I had a PTE 50 trim last year (now on CVD's car) and I have ridden in 2 56trim cars (mine isn't running yet). The 50 trim is the better street turbo by far. It has made 500whp and full spool was 3800 rpm.

Internal gating is cheaper, but external is better for power. If you go internal, it must be ported or it will creep.

You mean the gt 56 trim that is the GT30 pushes 55 lb/min or the one that is from the GT40 that pushes 65 lb/min?

The GT40. I don't believe the GT30 wheel is available from PTE for a DSM.

so are you saying you're regretting going 56trim?

Depends what you get on the hot side also. Getting something typical like the T350 wheel and a .63 a/r will spool quite quick. Getting something like a P trim and/or a .82 will make you lag like a mofo especially with a 2.0. There are also turbos between the two you listed... 60 trim, and 60-1 with many options on the hotside.

No, he was asking for a street turbo. Mine is a street/strip car. Besides I have a 2.4 to spool it now :D A GT56 on a 2.4 should be about the same spool as a 50 trim on a 2.0.

I kinda like johns setup for 'lag'
old style 60 trim wheel with .82 a/r, full garret.
1lb..5lb...15lb..30lb. :)
But a 50 trim with a smaller a/r (.63 to .48) would be a great street turbo.
