Apple iPhone help. - Info for a non-techie!

Ok, I've had my iPhone 3GS for 2 years, I like it and i wish to keep it for a long time.

However, i have had some issues with it and I have had to restore it but when I do I lose all my notes, calendar dates, photos, etc.
It also seems to lose the data within the apps, which means I need to start all over again.

Now I just had to restore my phone last night after a failed JB attempt, so I guess my question here is.

Is there any programs that are better to "sync/backup" your iPhone with so that you don't lose all this information and is there still a way that I can get my info back? I still have some backup files from past dates available.

Hmm. I've never had the issue of losing anything, when you sync to the computer do you have it set up to sync your notes, calendar, and photos? Even when i went from my 2g iphone to my 3g all my photos, notes, and everything transferred over from my old iphone.

I'm trying to find a way to get my old notes and such back on the phone.

When you do a restore with Iphone it wants ipsw files, however the files aren't in that format, when you d/l iphone backup extractor it recognizes these files but it costs $$$, obviously I'm trying to find a way around it.

I just got an iphone 4 yesterday after having nothing but android phones for the last 2-3 years. It's definitely a learning experience.

Can someone explain if there is a way you can use your own music for ringtones, notification, or alarm sounds?

You can by way of jailbreaking. For ringtones, you can select what song you want and if you right click and go to the info tab (IIRC) there is a part where you can select a start and stop time, you do this hit ok and then right click again and create a new copy/aac version.

Rename this new file to the extension .m4r and then put it into a new folder "ringtones" maybe then you can sync it that way for your ringtones.

This is based on the 3GS since that is what I have, I think the 4 is a little bit better with customization.
