This is amazing. I've never seen a launch from this view. It just shows you what an incredible altitude the shuttle gets to at take off.

The speed of that thing is amazing.
I was watching a thing on Challenger and they said that THREE people survived the explosion. When the shuttle exploded it was at about 55,000 feet, they hit their oxygen mask (how they knew they were alive) but by the time they had stopped ascending (from the momentum) they topped out at around 70,000 feet. They were fortunately unconscious by the time they hit the water though, due to that fact.
At any rate, that video is amazing.

It's not just the altitude it gets, but the tremendous acceleration it has throughout the take off. Remember, this thing starts with 500,000 gallons of liquid fuel, it's fuggin heavy!
