92 Galant VR4--what is it worth??

So after about five years of me bugging my aunt and uncle about selling their 92 Galant VR4, they have finally decided to give in. But now they want me to see what its worth.

Now here are some things i do remember about the car.
Motor was replaced a couple years ago with a jdm one. Original one was not bad, he just wanted one with lower miles.

My Aunt thinks the car has around 120,000 miles on it, but she cant remember.

Car is very clean interior. My uncle babies the thing every where. Only used it to drive back and forth to work cause it was AWD.

Now, my uncle originally wanted $3000 for the car. But as of right now he said the clutch is bad and the trans wont go into first and told me to make an offer.

I dont wanna screw him on it, he is family. But I dont wanna pay to much for it either.

Just kinda wondering what you guys think its worth.

I'd easily pay 3k for a mint unmolested GVR4.

How's the body? If that's all that's wrong with it and only 120k, I'd throw them the 3k and mow their lawn for the summer.

1500 because you will eventually put another 1500 into it to make it run. My brother is fixing up a civic coupe right now for my uncle to drive. He bought the shell for $500 and is going to spend about close to another $600 to have it running in a pretty good condition. I know it's not the same but if your uncle is pretty cool about it, I'd say 1,500 or even 1,000 if the trans is not in working condition + the clutch is going out. And yeah, I'd pay 3k for an unmolested GVR4 also.

Last i knew the car was in great shape. My uncle works for the highway dept back home and takes very good care of his vehicles.

The only thing i can think of for sure is that the clear coat is bad on the car. Which is normal for a car of that year.

And i would offer to mow his lawn, but thats like 50 some acres of land. lol.

Also, could the not shifting into first be related to the clutch being bad? I dont know if he tried to shift the trans with the car not running. I remember my buddy having an issue with his clutch master cylinder and we could shift the car in all gears as long as it was not running.

That's something you should look into. Either way a used 1G trans is only $150-$300.

I plan on looking into the trans/clutch issue more when i get there. I am just waiting for my Gf to pop out the baby. lol. Than i am gonna take a week off to go back home where the car is.

They are supposed to let me know tomorrow what they want for price. If its decent enough i may pick it up instead of finishing the talon at this time. Would give me time to make the talon exactly how i want. lol.

With no pics and the miles/clutch/tranny issues no more then $1800. Would that come with the "high" mile engine?

I have been on GalantVR4.org since late 09. Posted very very little over there. Only cause i haven't had a vr4 in a long time.

I highly doubt he has the old motor laying around. And I asked them to take some pics for me. I am just not gonna hold my breath. No offense to my aunt and uncle, but i highly doubt they would know how to even send them to me. lol

I wanna head back that way soon. Just waiting or the time. I guess i will find out tomorrow how much they want for it. Hopefully not to much.

Well, they got back to me and said they want $1500 for it. I think i am gonna go for it. Just gotta check it out again. I was planning on doing that soon, but......

New Baby girl decided not to wait. lol.
