Well you did mention the 88 octane in the other thread, were you boosting a lot on bad gas or what? It could also be a bad injector that caused it.

OR it could be a valve that broke and bounced around inside cylinder 1 and trashed the head and spark plug, I believe the same thing has happened to a few local members, maybe Brandon (Halon).

Happy 26th bday btw. Drink up and have a sexy adventure rumpus with someone who smells nice!

Ouch :( Hopefully you can source a new head and get it installed easily enough. Is the DSM your only car out there?

Looks like my spark plug. I still don't know what caused my problem. I was driving home from the gas station about a mile away, driving like a granny. Not getting into boost or anything. All of a sudden CLANK CLANK. Coasted into a parking lot. Removed the head and found a valve laying in there. The stock valves are a 2 piece design, and where mine was broken seemed like the spot where the 2 pieces would have fuzed together. So it seemed like just a random valve failure in my case, and that's the best I could come up with. I feel your pain, sucks man.

I fixed it the cheap route. Replaced the head with a 2G head. Replaced the Piston/Rod in that one cylinder. New rod bearings throughout. Bada bing.

Thats actually typical of DSMs. The minute you take any attention away from the car, she punches you in the face and tells you to pay attention. (much like a woman ;) ) Happy bday.

I vote the valve or an injector partial failure. If it was octane it would show up on more than one cylinder unless you have severly unequal flow across your intake ports.
If it was an injector full failure (aka not spraying) nothing would happen.
