Quite a few people on here have been over to my house and met my awesome friend Freckles. She passed today :( . She'd been bad for the last few weeks, and really bad the last few days. Not eating, drinking, barely moving, and not herself at all. We went to the Vet today and he basically confirmed the fact that she was really sick. He suspected liver failure, and considering her age and everything, the most humane decision was probably to put her to sleep. My dad, stepmom, and I were all there and made the choice to put her to sleep. This is my first time ever having to do something like this, and man is it aweful. I feel horrible, but in the end we all think it was the right choice, and probably what she would have wanted at this stage.

For those of you who didn't know her, she was my female cat that has been in my family for ever. She was a stray picked up by my cousins daycare. She stayed there for awhile before my aunt and uncle took her in. They had her for something like 5 years. They got a 2nd cat and they didn't get along so me and my parents took her in (I can't remember but I'd say I was probably around 13 years old). She was with us for about 10 years. Then when I purchased my home here in Blaine about 5 years ago, I brought her with me and she's been with me since around early 2006. None of us know her real age as she was a stray at one point, but we know she was atleast 20 years old (20 translates to 96 cat years), 15 of that spent with me. Amazing how much an animal can become part of your family after that long.

I'm super sad, but I think she had a good long life, and it was the right thing to do and she's no longer in anymore pain. Anyhow, just wanted to let those of you who knew her know and wish her a happy afterlife. We are keeping her in her box at my friends, and will be burying her in the spring :(

Bye Freck Bud, I will miss you, rest in peace now :(

Sorry to hear. :( Losing a pet that has been a part of your life for that amount of time is not easy.

The pain of losing a loved pet is awful :( I've been in the same spot.

Take comfort in knowing you gave her a great life, and with luck you'll see her again someday.

Very unfortunate to hear, she was a really nice cat. It's nice to know she lived a long and full life.

Sorry to hear Brandon! When we lost Chester, he actually died in my arms on the way to the emergency vet. Pets are family, it's sucks to lose one.

Brandon - One of my favorite moments ever on Facebook was seeing you post on Freckles wall when you were out of town, saying "I miss you gato!"

Thinking of seeing that brings a smile to my face every time.

Our pets are our family. They are small fuzzy little versions of family members, but we love them just as much as our human family. They make us happy, they make us angry, they make us sad, they make us speak to them in strange voices only they can understand, but in the end we love them regardless.

I know that when my little Sid passes on, he will have a friend up there in kitty heaven.

Freckles... You will be missed.
