I was having a misfire intermittent, sometimes near mid boost, sometimes at idle, bought new NGK plugs and Borg-Warner wires. no more misfire, however the check engine light came on and it is a super "lumpy" start-up.

My question is: is there a code scanner that works on an 89 dodge colt?

I havent really looked for one but IIRC there is a OBD-I port down there. suggestions help :)

Not sure how similar the Colt ECU is to a 1g (I think they are the same no?) But this is on vfaq, and instructions on how to retrieve the code if you don't have a logger.

http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html

Electrical>Retrieving Diagnostic Error Codes

There should be a list of codes along with instructions in there.

Again, not sure how similar this is to a 1g, but I figure it's worth a shot.

I also found this. not sure if its right, but i assume it is. like most of the older cars you will probably have to use a jumper wire.

P.S. Google is awesome. :D good luck dude.

my spiritual guide came to me and told me it's an Engine Temperature Control Sensor. Now to make a WTB ad for one :)

FIXED!! I used those blue quick splice connectors, I was still having a starting issue, I tested the resistance between the splice and the connector at the sensor. One wire had an error, turns out the splice didn't cut into the wire, just squished the plastic covering the wire, now she starts and runs like a beauty!!
