Well, I've had a bit of an itch to pick up a bow and arrow lately. Maybe it's the last few years of tons of co-workers killing deer or something. A few of them are bow hunters.

Anyways, I picked up a pair of compound bows today. For $100 (thanks craigslist) I picked up these:

A Jennings Back Lightning and an Xi Silverhawk XP.
The Jennings Back Lightning is currently set at a 50 pound, 26" draw.
The Silverhawk XP has a broken string. I'm thinking I'll have it re-stringed and set at at 60-65lb and 26 or 27" if possible.

The JBL at 26"/50lb is about what I can handle for now. I haven't played with a bow and arrow for 2-3 years, but have managed to be decently accurate for the first ~20 arrows I've put down range. Not impressive but not terrible by any means.

Not sure what the last bow I shot was, but it seemed easier. Anyways, a little something to have fun with for the next few months. Any one else play around with these things?

I use to really love archery as a teen...spent hundreds of hours practicing. My Dad ended up giving me his Jennings Unistar and it was the only bow of its kind back then (late 80's).

Cool. Do you plan to hunt or just shoot targets?

Haha we were!

I think this summer im going to really get into it, so I can hunt next year. The bow season is open way longer than gun.

Good idea on craigslist, I checked ebay the last few days but theres nothing super cheap on there.

For now just targets. We'll see how long I stick with it. Any one know of any decent indoor ranges?

First 4 of the day:

The one little arrow off to the left, and leaing on the right side of the target are a lighter grain, shoot different. Quit shooting them after this.

Decent, but I'm only at about 15 yards with these shots, I moved out to 25 for a few and I need to re-sight the bow. I was using the middle pointer for the 15 yard stuff, and the bottom is loose right now, so at 25 I was aiming 6" over the top to hit the middle of the target. Not too bad for my 2nd day of shooting in 4+years.
