If you're not going to rev the piss out of the thing, why not go 2.3 or 2.4?

Well I already have a 2.0 block.. I would have to do a TON more research on the 2.3 or 2.4 if I went that way. I already have eagle rods and wiseco pistons for a 6 bolt 2.0

the rear end that is pretty much a bolt in is the Ford 8.8 out of a thunder bird with disk brakes
AAAMMM no they don't. The miata are a IRS rear and not a sold axle. I would just use a RX7 turbo 2 rear end they have 4.10 gear and a LSD in them all and they are a TRUE bolt in and they are just as strong as a Chevy 10 Bolt.

My T56 is holding 520wtq, and I know a few V guys are running at least 600wtq on them without any issues, never revving past 6500-7000rpms though. I bet the Viper guys spin them faster, but the Viper spec ones are pretty spendy. Maybe slowbubblecar can chime in on those.

I haven't heard any tranny issues for people making less than 750 whp or so. The only people worried about trannies at the TT guys and some of the Paxton people that are making 800 whp+. Used trannies usually go for around $1,500.

The Viper T56 would likely be more than what would be needed in a miata with a 35R.

I don't know if that FC rear end would fit. I think its just the N/a rears that fit. something about the housings? Who knows I have to look into that a lot more.

I do know what I am talking about I have looked into this a lot since my dad wants to put a ls in his car and a ford 8.8 thunderbird rear end and they are IRS just like the miata. It is also a bolt in with a few brackets that you can buy http://www.bossfrog.biz/Miata_V8_Swap.html or build your self

A thunderchicken 8.8 diff doesn't have LSD, never did. Only the solid axle 3.8L SC did. You can buy an LSD center for the Tbird, but it's pricey. I'd just start with one that's already LSD.

Any of the rear end will work. The turbo 2 and the GTU have a 7inch ring gear were the na is smaller. But the mounting points are still the same as in it the same size as the miata rear end..

To me a true dolt in to me is were you don't have to buy any thing to make it work. The rx7 rear diff will bolt in with out ANY extra parts and i was thinking that the Thunderbird were a sold axle. Sorry if I sound like a ass I have seen other guys on the v8rx7forum do the v8 miata swap and I look in to it years a go and they all most always use the turbo 2 rear end or they do a sold 8.8.
