well ive pretty much resigned myself to needing a new clutch, but i thought i would ask anyways.

today while i was out doing a 3rd gear pull the clutch decided it didnt want to hold anymore and jumped from 3800 rpm up to 4700 rpm for about a second. after this happend ive been hearing a chirping sound from under the car that goes away after pressing the clutch in.

just wondering if there might be any solutions to this or is it time for a new clutch.

this was on a fidanza 4.3 with about 2-3k miles on it.

If its adjustable you can try that, but sounds like a smoked clutch to me...

You can try adjusting it. But it sounds fairly toast. If you had to sit in traffic or load it on a trailer recently, or in general do a lot of slipping the clutch in a short period of time, it might just be glazed. If it's glazed you will want to do a bit of aggressive driving with some quick to moderator fast shifts to try and break the glaze.

Make sure you have some pedal play, otherwise your pressure plate is partially released and will cause slipping. If you do have pedal play then your clutch wont hold the power anymore.

i actually did not know about this, and if the clutch is totaly shot, this would probably be why. i dont remember having any play when fully released.

yea its sounding pretty smoked to me. im guessing you had it adjusted wrong or you didn't break it in properly

well i didnt have any play at all so i went and got a 1/4" longer slave rod, and a SS clutch line. after i threw those in, i had about an inch of play at the top, and the clutch engaged about 2 inches off the floor. slips no problem at all now so she is toast.
