I've have a 97 automatic mitsu eclipse spyder that i am converting into a AWD Manual (Drivetrainwise). I am using a 95 gsx donor car for all of the necessary parts. The problem i am having is with the safety neutral switch. How can i make it work with the clutch petal. What does that switch see? Does it see a constant 5 volts? Does it have to be grounded to start? Also, I did take the cable and connectors out all the way to the ignition thinking i wasn't going to need it because it was going to be a stick. Well i guess i need it. It would be great if you could help me out! Thanks For Your Time.

On a manual if you unplug the clutch safety switch it bypasses it, open circuit means it thinks the clutch is in. ECU will disable start up if it sees continuity to ground.

i see.. what about an automatic? i have the automatic dash/ steering column.. so... could i connect it all back up to the cable and put it in the "park position" and see if that works?

Well there are only like three options that let the car start, all super easy to test.

1. Open circuit just like a manual, just don't hook up either wire to anything
2. Continuity to ground, just ground the associated wires
3. Unlikely, but possible that it sees 12v on an auto. I wouldn't try this.

dont hook it up to any thing leave it open
pull all the auto cables out of the colum
that is all you need to do. That is all I ever do on all the 5speed swaps I have done
