Why Abilene?
I've only been to Amarillo and Houston/Galveston so far. DFW was pukingly hot & humid the one time that I changed planes there...nearly killed me.
I wouldn't mind spending some more time in Houston.
My next station is Dyess AFB.
Kracka, thanks for the information. I looked, but it looks like there is hardly any E85 in my area. Sucks, I will have to retune my Evo back to regular 91ish.

I know there are plenty of E85 stations and nothing but 93-octane premium in the DFW area. Sorry I can't be more helpful regarding Abilene.

Thanks, you've told me pretty much what I am looking for.

I have spent some time in TX for work (primarily DFW). I didn't have any real complaints aside from the heat in the summer.
Regarding gun laws, I doubt gun laws are any more laxed there than they are here. Probably just more people excersizing their right to carry. To carry a gun around legally in MN, it is a fairly easy process. Take a class for most of the day. Take a short shooting test which is easy to pass (I passed and never held a gun prior). You get a certificate at the end of the class which you use to get you get your permit. Submit an application at the sheriff's office and pay $100. In 30 days or less, you are able to legally carry a fire arm. There are no conceal laws in MN (likely not in TX either) which means you are not required to conceal it if you have a permit. I have completed the process in MN. If anyone is interested in knowing more about that part, you can PM me.

Big recession and very big decline in home values the past few years. Haven't been there before but hear about many issues through work.

Only if you're down on the Gulf; they don't get anywhere near DFW or Abilene as the OP mentioned moving to. Tornadoes are a consideration, but no worse than MN.
