I'd call Mitsu and bitch up a storm. This is not acceptable for a non-modded, regularly service interval car.

What brand of components were used at the 60k service, and do you have invoices to prove it or are you going on the previous owner's word?

I have invoices, actually, all of the receipts since it was driven off the lot I believe. Not sure what brand components were used, I'll have to the Wife pull out the files on it tomorrow and check.

But, the car had 99k on it, I did call Mitsu, and if we had been the original owners of the car, the 10 year 100k warranty would have covered it, but we bought it with 80k on it, so the warranty was only 5 years 60k. From looking through the bore scope it seems as though the valves didn't make a huge mess, so hopefully my brother an I can put in new valves, etc. and out it back together and toss it on craigslist to recoup some of our cost.

 Good luck with that... Just becuase you replace an OEM part under a service interval doesn't mean the work will be warrantied for an additional 60k interval. Depending on who did it, it might be warrantied for a year after the repair, but it is likely to only be applicable to the person who paid for the repair. You do have to take into consideration that it is a car that has 99k on it and isn't something that was driven off the show room floor last year.

I knew someone who had an issue with a new clutch that shattered. It was replaced by a reputable shop about 8 months prior by the previous owner. He wasn't able to get any help from the shop.
