Would there be any benefit using this block? it is just a small 1.6L
Say if I was going to use this as a DD or long distances would it actually get better gas milage or just the same as the 4g63? Would it hold up to a decent amount of hp if mods were right?

I highly doubt that I am going to use this block but I was just curious...

it will get the same gas miles out of it as the 63. 90% of the 3g guys go to the 63 block for off the shelf parts for the engine. the 61 will hold just fine for not to high of boost in them.
Just go with the 4g63 it is easy to get part for it over the 4g61 internals and there is a ton more 4g63's out there

I am going 4g64 actually :D .8L displacement over the 1.6
Looking for some good Torque in a light car.

I just never heard many people talk about the 4g61 and what it's week points.

It doesn't have any. Your downside is no aftermarket pistons/rods.

You have to be careful using the engine code 4g61. There is a 4g61 that came in Hyundai Elantra, 4g61 and 4g61T that came came in CSM's. I assuming that you are talking about a 4g61T that came with the 89 turbo CSM's.
This engine is identical to the 4g63T's 6 bolts.
The major difference is that:
1) engine is a 1.6l
2) no oil squiters
3) Last time I checked there was no balance shaft
4) less torque and hp
5) I believe compression is also different
The advantage with a 4g61T with good compressions is that most 4g63T stock parts bolt right up to it. You could squeeze about 165 to 200+ hp with the basic 4g63T parts and mods with a good tune. This would include 14b turbo's, 2g exhaust manifold, 1g cams, 1g 450 injectors, 1G/2G MAS and most of the free mods you can do with a 4g63T. Plus you would also save yourself some money until you can afford a 4g63T or 4G64T.
If you do have a 4g61T where did you get it from?

My 4G61t Colt made something like 190whp on MAP's dyno with the stock 9b turbo, stock cams, shitty stock manifold, pump gas etc. You should be able to make well over 250whp with what you mentioned. Maybe more.

I would agree but I just post numbers on the conservative(sp) side.
