A little about my self and my car.

I'm still pretty new to dsm's and turbos. This is my first turbo car, and I'm lovin it. I own a shop in Coon Rapids and I've been a auto tech for about 11 years now, so I'm fairly experienced in repairs and servicing. Being as though this is my first turbo car, I'm learning as i go. This board has been a huge help, both in aquiring parts and useful info.

My car is a 96 Talon Tsi AWD auto. I bought it completely stock, with pounded valves. I replaced the timing belt, balancer belt, waterpump, and rebuilt the head. It ran and drove perfect after that. (I was starting to get exited at this point) Since then I've replaced the exhaust with a full turbo back 3", high flow air filter, 1g BOV, small 16g turbo.

My plan is to give my talon just a little extra zip. I'd like to think i could stomp evos and supras, but I'd be happier than hell to kick the crap outa mustangs and camaros.

Obviously anything more than what I've got now will require some tuning and fuel mods. Next on my list will be 255 fuel pump, maybe injectors and defiantly an AFCII, with a tune.

This sounds like a good place to start (I'm sure when i get it done I'll want more) Anyone have any comments on this. This sounds like where most DSMers started, so any help I can get would be apreciated.

Should get yourself some evo 560cc injectors, that would be an inexpensive injector upgrade. I'll be selling mine pretty soon.

I would say first, you need to decide what your power goals are. That way you don't end up buying 2 or 3 sets of injectors, 2 or 3 turbos, etc. to get there. Sounds like you have a nice platform to start from! Post up some pics.

I realy dont know much about these cars as far as HP ratings go. My thoughts are towards the 300 hp range. Is that doable with this setup, or would I be pushing it? What is the stock HP on this car?

205hp is the factory horespower rating for 2g's. A small 16g, 560'cc injectors, safcII, fmic, exhaust, just all the basic stuff, will make a fun street car. Auto cars lose a little more hp through drivetrain loss though, so idk if that set up will be 300hp worthy.

Also gonna want a wideband o2 sensor, to monitor your air/fuel ratio, so you can safely tune it. Boost gauge and a boost controller would prob be necessary when modding. Since you're a tech, I'm guessing you keep your maintenence pretty up to date, and thats the most important part of modding. If ya start slapping on mods, to a car that isn't prepped for it, you will just end up breaking stuff.

I would say go with MHI Evo 3 Big 16g turbo from ForcedPerfomance, DSMLink to tune the car, 1000cc injectors, Walbro 255, 2g MAS, Wideband, Front mount intercooler and some E85 fuel. You will be amazed with how much your car can do.
Ditch the SAFC, DSMLink is around 500$ used and it goes a long way. It is basically a complete engine management system versus just a fuel control with safc.

^^ That's a good setup for your goals. You'll make boost early enough to make some good torque (=fun street car), and it should still be breathing hard enough up top to put you well over 300whp. The only thing I'd add to the list is a set of cams. HKS 272's are my cam of choice, and can be had for a decent price used, but there are other options out there.
