It sounds like the board wants to make teachers honest for once. Instead of letting these kids think that when they get out into the world there will be no such thing as social, racial, or sexual injustices.
Its funny because when you get into college and take a history course, you realise that everything you were taught in high school history is completly bullshit. Take for instance, christopher columbus and his crew slaying many native americans. k-12 you learn that it was a peaceful journey and they had a great feast that symbolized peace between two cultures... when in reality the crews of the settlers were engaging in travisties such as cannibalism, murder, rape and genocide. your world is thrown upside down because you have been lied to your entire life by teachers you trusted to tell you HISTORY, not a fictional fairy tale. But i guess you need to pay for that kind of knowledge.
The fact of the matter is that they do not hate the country, they just feel that if you dont prepare the kids for the harsh world out there, they will end up hating america much more. Conservatives love to live in a little fantasy world where america is great and peace (among straight white men) is rampant. But the fact of the matter is that the world out there is filled with lies that have been told to us our entire lives.

My little brother and sister are still telling me about how terrible my car hurting the planet....I'd rather have them(kids) think about the planet than something that won't do much for their lives in that age.

More liberal BS out of Minnesota; glad I left. I'm ashamed to hold a U of M diploma after reading this though.
Tom, you have quite a bit to learn about Minnesota's current K12 education system.

Well, it's too bad you can't tell the difference between an unbiased story and a completely right-leaning publication such as this one. I'm sure if you read the University's own version you might be able to draw your own conclusions, but probably not, since Republicans tend to simply regurgitate the real bullshit spewed by people like Rush Limbaugh, et. al. The difference is, for how much garbage he puts out there, he actually has to do some research. I hate to call it that though.
And if you are so adamant about bashing Minnesota, I say good fucking riddance. And don't prove me right that you're a closet Fascist by banning me cause I said something you don't like.

LOL Calm down there killer, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion! I have the right to spew my conservative opinions just like you do your liberal ones. There is no such thing as a true neutral media outlet, and even if there was everything is in the eye of the beholder so you take the U of M's statement one way and I take it another. Get over it; facts of life son which is why we have our 2-party (realistically) democratic system.
Also, I have never once banned anyone (paybanning doesn't count) just for saying something I don't like. As I stated above, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but members do get banned for violating forum rules which again have nothing to do with personal views and more to do with member bashing.
Yet again though, another political thread and look who is turning it into a fight...

As it's been said before, opinions and discussion are always welcome. Once it gets to be a personal attack, well,.....................

Wait, people have issues because teachers are going to tell kids that America isn't the best shit in the world? We're not, and we shouldn't claim to be. And teaching kids that we are is what causes the shit I see every day at work, where you get people thinking they're entitled to shit because they're in America.
Had a guy call the cops yesterday when we refused him service. Why? We couldn't do what he wanted so he got belligerent, and when we tried to kick him out, he called the cops.
My little brother and sister are still telling me about how terrible my car hurting the planet....I'd rather have them(kids) think about the planet than something that won't do much for their lives in that age.
I'd rather have them think about having fun as a kid instead of fake world issues like global warming. They can grow up and be the scourge of the earth that are Prius driving yuppies if it makes them feel better about raping the countryside of Canada for 2000 Lithium batteries they're going to need to replace every 5 years. All cars pollute in some way, shape, or form, that's the thing the biased car manufacturers don't tell you, and kids these days aren't informed enough to question the media.
