I dont know how it works on a 2g, maybe it works like a 1g. If it does, the 1g has a thermostatic switch on the radiator, it triggers a relay and turns on the fan.
If it works this way, the best way to test would be at the relay.

another thing to check is resistance through the wire to to ecu, I've ran into a few vehicles where the wire corrodes and/or breaks... or the connector right at the temp sensor could also have a bad connection.

that actually makes alot of sense i havent checked that. now to hunt down which wire goes to the ecu and what pin it is.
