Almost ALL dsms Leak coolent. Its mainly from old rubber hoses cracking or the seal on the water pump.
...
Boost leaks are one of the most common problem with DSMs ESPECIALLY the shitty side mount. They always leak. They are built to leak. Get a new used one or upgrade to the FMIC.
I've never had a DSM that leaks coolant. I have never had a leaky side mount (don't get me wrong, I've had PLENTY of other problems). I actually think the stock sidemounts are pretty solid. Even if it leaks, you don't need to get a phatty bling FMIC. Just find a used one that doesn't leak, pressure test it to make sure, and put it on your car. Or just seal up the leak on your original one.
Why the hatred for stock parts? People seem to think that stock parts not functioning is because they're stock parts, and stock parts are 'shitty'. Not true. Stock parts are almost always of higher quality than the aftermarket stuff people buy.
Just remember, you don't have to upgrade to get it running properly. Upgrades just add complexity and points of failure. Get it running soundly stock, then upgrades will be easier and that much more rewarding :)

Here's a good story:
I sold my Iroc camaro a few years back. This car was my pride and joy and meant the world to me. Although this was the first car i built, I got tons of complimeants on it, and it was by far the nicest 3rd gen in the area at that time.
I was 100% honest with the kid. I told him the car needed rear end service, and had a tranny leak. I gave him all the parts to service the car with the purchase. He agreed, and signed the bill of sale that stated these things.
The day after he buys the car (4th of july), I get a nasty phone call from him that the car keeps stalling on him, and wont stay running for more that a few seconds. He then says that the car was dumping smoke out the tail pipes going down the highway. I was honestly concerned, so I gathered my family and headed home to drop them off. 15 minuets later, the kid calls back, saying his buddies are over there telling him how the car has shit parts in it, and its a pile. His dad is in the back ground cussing me out.
Being a little nervous, I grab two buddies on my way out there, and head to his house about 30 min away. I am greeted by fifty (no exaggeration) people. His drunk dad starts getting in my face as I look at the car, at which point I started to get pissed. So I grab the kid and tell him to get his buddies out of my face, and start the car.
He starts it, it lumps for 5 seconds and dies. He says, "there, see!" I get in the car, turn the key, and she starts the same, I help the car idle for about 15 seconds, and she purrs like a kitten with a nice cam. I then drive him around the block and show him that the thing is fine.
We get back, and he asks what I did. I explained to him that the car had a healthy cam shaft, and that's how a "built engine" works. He says that it is crap that a 7000 dollar car can't idle on its own unless you help it at first.
Then the smoke. Remember the tranny leak? Well my friends were talking to his buddies while we were out driving, and told them they were doing 130+ down 35E when it happened. The small leak becomes pretty large at those type of trans pressures, especially in a 700r4!
I heard from him 5 more times, and tried to be polite, ut eventually I had to tell him to stop calling. I even offered to buy the car back (for a reduced amount to cover his damages to the tranny and my time) if he wanted. Ill admit, it was alot less, but a way out non the less.
Through the grapevine, I found out over that winter, he and his buddies "worked on it", and it blew up the first time they started it. He then let it sit in his street all winter, and rusted to death. My pride and joy was killed in less than a year.
Morale to the story, you need to be honest when you sell a car. But even when you are, some people still bitch. I've decided that it is simply part of the deal selling used cars, especially modded ones.

I'm too lazy to read all of this but I've got a funny story too!
I sold my dsm to some kid blah blah blah and yea he started texting me all the time. My favorite stupid comment he sent me was this "dude I read that the 4g63 is the second best engine ever made. So I'm gunna buy one and build it up and then swap it in." I laughed so hard when I read that. I replied with "I know where you can find one...look under the hood." haha the end

(I never knew they made exhaust like that interesting.)
LOL it was a joke, but hey if theres a demand maybe i could create it. ha ha ha. It would be like those stunt airplanes with smoke. :)

So your ok with the 2g plastic blow off valve? its never leaked for you? The problem with the side mounts (at least the 2g one) is its plastic end caps with the metal core. Manufacturing process is never perfect, especially the fact that its not even welded.
Sure you dont have to upgrade to get it running properly, but if your going to be replacing something, why not spring a couple more bucks for the upgrade. I have always worked this way on my dsms. If it brakes, it means its time for upgrade. Blow a turbo, get a bigger one, leaky blow off valve, upgrade to a better one, bend some valves, upgrade the damn head, blow a tranny get an upgrade built one.
The reason for this is simple. If your goals are for more power, why waste your money with stock parts, especially the fact that most stock parts you will be replacing with are so damn old that who knows whether they are good or not.
Every one of my dsms has leaked coolent or oil at one point or another. I have had to replace every single oil and coolent line in each of my cars. (well maybe not the 99 gsx, but did need to replace 2 T25s and a motor in that one, gotta love warranties)

I like that idea tpunx! Its just nice if you can do that stuff starting with a solid car ^_^ ehh no sweat though. I will do most of the work on it by myself the rest let the ppz at MAP or ELITE take care! It will put my Front mount on the WISH list but oh well! Winter is almost here anyways. At least ill be able to settle a few scores with people THAT JUST STRAIGHT UP BE HATING ON 4cylinder CARZ!!!! that was especially hard to read friend. tone it down or just don't type that kinda deal here, this isn't MNSC. lol. anyways, good luck and tpunx99GSX is correct with all that stuff, if you're going to replace it, don't go for the stock parts. good luck! I've been DD the galant for 2 years and it's given no major issues. Most of my friends who own Honda's and Nissan's are actually the ones that are getting the headaches lol.
