I was wondering if anyone has fixed up a scratched up windshield? My windshield looks like someone ran the wipers without the rubber inserts in the wipers.

Some of the old guys I used to work with told me to try using very fine steel wool and metal polish. However, I have never seen anyone actually do that before.

So, if anyone has tried something with any kind of results lmk. I got time to burn trying something if it works, I just want to avoid having to foot the bill for new glass if I don't have to.

I didn't even know it was possible to do this, mine is really bad. Every time I drive into the sun I can't see anything because of the million tiny scratches reflecting light.

Thats exactly my problem. I think if I dont hear otherwise I'm probably gonna wing it and give it a shot this weekend.

I believe you can buy glass polish at the parts store.

I just found this article via Google:

It's hard to do, glass is a lot harder than paint. Steel wool won't do anything to glass, it actually works well for scraping bugs off windshields. Basically, about the only thing you can do is get the coarsest glass polish you can find and use a high speed buffer, similar to buffing paint. It takes a lot of work to even get out light scratches, much less a full windshield. You're best off having glass coverage on your insurance policy and "waiting" for a big rock to hit it.
