Rmdsm Intake Manifold Test

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this in but...

They have done a dyno test on most of the popular aftermarket intakes available and will be posting the results by the end of this week. They even had a couple stock extrude honed intakes to test in addition to all the sheet metal/cast intakes.

Should be interesting to read once they post the results.

The results are almost useless. All of the intakes performed worse than any aftermarket intake I have ever personally dynoed. Might be because of the altitude or some problem with the test car. They were all dropping power hard a bit after 7000 when on most cars the power holds out to past 8000 before it starts dropping off hard. They all performed about the same except for the FRH which for some reason was noticably worse.

That sux, thats also what I heard on another board. I was hoping the guy was full of shit. Sounds like they put a lot of time, $$$$, and effort into their test. Hope it was worth their time. :/

The guy that supervised the test is very knowledgeable, so I'm surprised the results aren't more beneficial. I was surprised to find out that the best performer was the Hogan's manifold that "Extreme"ly Overpriced sells. So much for the equal runner length theory.

Looks like the stock 1G manifold holds its own quite well. but the Venom is the best.

The test is a little difficult to form any real opions off of. They did as much as they could in the time they had. Its like anything that you mod though, it takes a fair amount of tuning to get the most out of each intake. Those results would have been even more interesting but it would have taken days to tune each intake properly.

Wasn't the Venom an earlier intake that they don't offer anymore?

I don't think it's fair to talk about one manifold without talking about all of the others.

So:

FRH - built like a tank, and weighs in like one
Extreme - a work of art, and built to take a beating
BJ - well built, but a "plain" finish
Magnus - well built with a "bling bling" finish
Venom - a "crack" waiting to happen
Dejon - well built but the runner/flange joint may become an issue after extended use... especially if the coils are mounted on the manifold, only time will tell

Interesting test, not really worth much in the big picture of things for the same reason others mentioned. No tuning for each manifold. Most of these have one or two things I like about the design, but none of them are outstanding over all the others. If this inspires someone to do a better SO with more tuning involved etc, that would be a good thing.
