I'm sick of all the Ken Block fanboys thinking he's some magical driver. Good? Sure. Great? Let me know when he's the Rally America champion, because right now he's a mile behind Pastrana, is getting beaten by a privately funded Evo 9 for 2nd and has two other Evos within 3 points of him in 4th and 5th.

Thought I'd bring this back from the day pending today's news.... And Ken Block was also a topic of conversation at OC last night....

REPORT: Ken Block heading to WRC with new Monster Ford team

One of the most significant deals in rally history. That's how news of Ken Block's imminent move to the World Rally Championship is being touted in the motorsport press. And we couldn't agree more.

Now don't get us wrong. We enjoy watching Block's famous antics behind the wheel of his purpose-built Gymkhana Subaru Impreza as much as the next guy. Probably more. But we can't help but feel that the superstar's otherworldly car control skills couldn't be put to better use than pure showboating. And this deal could give him exactly that opportunity, graduating from the relatively low-visibility Rally America series to the top-tier WRC.

Since Subaru, for whom Block competes in the USA, pulled out of the WRC, Ken's been hunting for another ride in the premier series, and reports now indicate that he – along with former Subaru driver Chris Atkinson – will be driving the 2009-spec Ford Focus WRC for the new Monster Energy Drink World Rally Team (which could, incidentally, go some way towards explaining what the two rally stars were doing behind the wheel of that old Ford Escort (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/14/video-ken-block-chris-atkinson-test-out-their-rear-drive-chops/)). Once the details are hammered out, both Block and Atkinson are expected to start next season in select rounds of the championship before challenging the full calendar the year after, presumably behind the wheel of the new rally-spec Fiesta (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/02/spy-shots-first-images-of-ford-fiesta-s2000-rally-car/).

Huh... I'm kinda interested in seeing how well he does. I'm guessing probably not very well.

I've never heard someone say Ken Block is the greatest rally driver in the world. The gymkhana videos aren't rally videos, they're simply for entertainment. Sure he may not be the greatest driver ever, but that shit can't be easy.

Oh, what ever will the Subaru fan boys do now?!

They will continue to wear sideways hats, and put giant turbos on their cars with no supporting mods.

Wow I never really watched rally racing, this is incredible!

Now, on with the show. Here we have Rhys Millen in a Hyundai Genesis coupe setting the 2WD world record at Pike's Peak.

All is true, but Ken seems like more of a stunt/freestyle entertainment kind of guy.

But comparing him to Millen is like comparing a highschool all-star to Adrian Peterson. They both get the job done, and are very good at their own game.

And, Ken can dick swing all he wants, no one on this board could out-drive him IMO.
