Found a 1g at the parts yard but it's a non turbo front wheel drive, would both of the half shafts work for my 1g talon tsi 91 fwd? Engine mounts and everything else look the same.

Im not 100% sure, but I think the turbo axles are bigger, therefore non turbo axles would not work.

As long as its a 2.0 non turbo they should work.

He said his car is a '91 TSI. Non turbo axles won't work.

Did they change the axle size between 90 and 91? My car use to have a non turbo trans in it even though my car was originally a turbo car. When I swapped to the turbo trans I have now, my axles carried over.

I think it was half way through the 1g production they put bigger axles in the fwd.

EDIT: THE 93-94 FWD's had bigger spline shafts going into the tranny so you have to buy upgraded ones, or an OEM one. You wont be able to even get the axle at Advance or Auto Zone because all they have is the small spline ones (90-92), i know this because i used to work there..lol. So either DSS or OEM.

I found that over on Tooners.

Thanks for the info, glad I didn't ruin my plans today to go pull them. I was looking for a cheap fix but I should go buy new shafts if I'm going to take the time to put them in. I'm poor and sick of the clicking, makes my car sound like a POS. I believe the 1g at U pull r parts was a 93-94 non turbo DOHC so no go.

I had Marty @ Raxles make me some custom axles when I put a built '91 FWD tranny into my '94 TSi FWD. Lifetime warranty and they weren't even that expensive.

Thanks for the correction. I though that non turbo axles were smaller than turbo axles.

I've only read good things about raxles but I'm poor and on a budget so $70 new shafts at oriley's will have to do.

I happened apon someone talking about equal length shafts for a FWD 1g, apparently you take the intermediate shaft of a 1g AWD and get a 1g AWD drivers side half shaft and a 13mm spacer? Anyone have a 1g awd intermediate shaft or the chrysler spacer? Also read you can do washers I believe. Have my car jacked up and half torn apart and I would like to do it right the first time, minus getting a new not rebuild half shaft from oriley instead of a better one from raxles.
