Hey guys- So I've been trying to tackle this transmission/clutch problem for a while now. I had called around to shops to see how quick I could get my car into their shop because I'm going back to school soon, and if I leave it at the place I'm at now it will be towed to the junk yard. I brought my car to a transmission shop in Eden Praire called RB Auto and on the way there I broke a shifter cable. So now before anyone can see what I'm talking about on why my clutch wont disengage fully (which is why my tranny is grinding) we need to replace the shifter cable. I bought a new shifter cable but now the guy is telling me its the wrong one, even though I pulled it from a 1991 talon which is the same year as mine. He said the end going to the transmission matches up but the end that goes into the car into the shifter assembly is the wrong one. He said the new ones I gave him are both even and the ones I need needs to be longer then the other. This shop is in eden praire. If someone could help me out, or even call him and act like me and see whats the hell he is talking about would mean a million dollars to me. I leave for college in 15 days. I AM DESPERATE to get my car to college with me. If I don't the car will be towed to the junk yard. (parents say)

Have you seen for yourself what the problem is? I have replaced shifter cables before, but i'm not entirely sure what the differences are year over year. Does your car have the original transmission/shifter in it? If so, I don't see any reason why the cables wouldn't work.

About the tranny problem - did you ever try the extended slave rod? I know that this is a common issue with DSMs... the pivot ball gets worn down, arm gets bent, aftermarket clutches need more throw... etc. Or perhaps your master cyl needs replacing.

Cant remember the difference between years but your car might have a tranny from a 90. Maybe try to PM mark (tkrperformance). He might have both sets sitting around or might even know off the top of his head what the differences are. I used to know but haven't messed with a dsm tranny in a few years.
