For the shifting problem, you might want to look at replacing the in-car shifter bushings. My car did the same thing, replaced the bushings and problem solved. Because the bushings were just so worn out, it didn't allow the linkage to get into reverse position.

I already have all solid bushings in the shift linkage. I got it fixed though, thanks.

I'm going to try the oil pan again on Wed. Hopefully I can get it to seal all the way around.
