And if you use something other than 10w-30 which is specified by the 1g dsm users manual, why did you switch?

Reason I ask, is my oil pressure is a little on the low side, which isn't too surprising for a high mileage dsm, and i've been thinking about switching to 10w-40 to boost it a bit until i get around to swapping out the oil pump. Is that a terrible idea?

10W-40 is fine to use and falls within Mitsu's spec for use during the warmer months. What is your oil pressure at during idle and hwy cruise?

I use 15W-40. Reason is because I just see a lot of the other guys at similar power levels using thicker weights. And if it's working for them, then hopefully it works for me.

I put 10w-30 synthetic in my quest because I got it for free at the dyno day, and it's working fine. But next oil change I'm going back to 20w-50 regular oil for the win.

I have always used 10-30.

What would be the benefit of running heavier oil? Does not having balance shafts and not porting your relief valve make your oil pressure get pretty high with the heavier stuff too?

I saw a big difference in 15w 40 vs. 10w 30. The newer stuff my oil psi was around 80 at cruising/pulls, and around 50ish at idle, or just below. Old 10w30 it would be around 25 at idle, and 75ish max under load. I ran the oil feed off the filter housing, and no restrictor, and could have been the reason why my turbo detonated, and shifted the center shaft over.

I have always used 10-30.

When you start making some decent power you might want to goto some thicker oil to protect that munchgsx stage 1 motor you got.

Amsoil 20w50 with larger main bearing gap by using acl race bearings.

Amsoil 20w50 here as well.

I did use 5w30 valvoline conventional at one point, but did not like how my lifters reacted. So then I went to 10w30 valvoline and it got better. Switched to valvoline full synthetic 10w30 and I leaked everywhere. lol

I plan to run full synthetic 10w30 once I get the car put back together.
