I almost have my car back up and running again! Minus the fact that I can't start my car for a good 10 minutes because I think my starter is on its way out. It tries to turn over, but it keeps spinning, and then finally one time it'll go and fire up. What I hear is what I think is the starter to be spinning and missing the flywheel. Because every once in a while it engages and almost turns over. Finally she will turn over after trying for 10 minutes. Is this a starter problem?

What did you change from the last time it ran?

Battery voltage, ground cable for the starter, is the spacer plate between the engine/tranny, are the starter bolts tight, starter trigger wire issues, did you change anything with the flywheel, did the starter have any issues before the clutch job?

Mine did this after sitting for 2 months. It would spin fast in place instead of going out to grab the flywheel. Just replace it.

Go down there, check all the connections, if they are tight, try it once more than replace. When you install the new one try to clean up some of the bolts or mounting spots. I've always though that could be a problem these cars go though starters so quickly. But i have no proof, just looking at a few starters that have come off. I know in the shop we worked on there were a few vehicles that came in(non DSM's) that would have intermittent starting issues that would get fixed after cleaning up the starter surface.

Replace it. You could borrow mine for a day if you wanted to just see if a known good one fixes the issue before spending the money on a new one.

Ok, tried a brand spanking new starter and it didn't fix the problem it did the same thing. All you hear is the starter spinning. I dropped the tranny again thinking it was the flywheel that I may have not installed correctly, but that wasn't the case. Yes it is 100% sure its an AWD flywheel. The thing thats got me going is the fact that this is a brand spanking new flywheel and it has burn marks/ heat spots all around it and I've only driven it for 30 miles. I don't get why this is such a problem, does anyone else have any ideas?
