View Full Version : All Mitsu Cookout or a full weekend?

I'm starting to plan for the Cookout. I'm probably going to have it on Sunday, August 23rd. The next big thing to figure out is to just do the Cookout. Or expand it like last year to include events on Saturday, like a dyno day/swap meet and cruise.
For me, doing the full weekend was a lot more work, and our numbers were actually down in 2008 compared to 2007. That was a real bummer. Gas prices were over $4 a gallon, and the economy wasn't too great. We did get a lot more out-of-towners, but the number of locals that actually came to the Cookout was way down.
So I'd like to hear some opinions on what direction to take this thing.
Thanks,
Curt

Summer is busy enough as it is, so I vote for just a weekend afternoon. In my opinion the day gets a bit too long as well by the time voting comes around at 4ish.

I agree, the day gets long so I always show up at like 11am.

Last year was my first, but I have to agree, by about 2pm I had planted myself on a camp chair under one of the 'Style tents.

It's great to include a dyno day. The cookout and dyno day all in one day would be a little much, so I vote 2 days unless someone has a good idea on how to make it one day without it being morning to night.

Im not voting yet becuase i would want to know what the schedule of events would look like. If its camping i might be down, hotels im not the craziest about. The day does get long at the cook out but if there is more planned it might be better. Once again never let the numbers get you down there are a lot of outside influences that can effect it non of which can be controlled you do an awesome job at putting on this show

I'm still baffled at the people who think the Cookout is too long. If you truly get bored at looking at Mitsus, why not show up an hour or two late. We won't run out of food and you'll still see all the cars and see who wins.
I've been to a lot of car shows in my days. Having one less than five hours is just not practical.
More thoughts?

I do show up usually around 11, I guess ill have to make it 1 or 2. :D 5 hours of standing there gets to be a bit long... I see im not alone in this. If things were going on, like at a dyno day, it may be more interesting... but really looking at so many mitsus only takes maybe an hour. :) Then eating and chatting maybe a couple more...

Making sure it isn't scheduled on the day of an autocross or other event is key.
EDIT: I just looked at my schedule, will be in Duluth racing RC cars that weekend. Maybe next year.

I know its a full on mitsu event, but something to get better numbers would be to have a small section called "others" and allow other nice cars to be shown, and not just parked in back. just a thought. i know a lot of ex mitsu owners would like to go and show what they drive now
