Talked with Robert and Aniel yesterday on turbo upgrades. They have a new offering for all the 3052/3055/3065 owners out there looking for HTA love.
They have taken the 82mm HTA compressor wheel and fitted it into the older turbo's. The upgrade costs $600 and comes with the new compressor wheel and cover.
Robert says the turbo has a flow rating of 70 lb/min, identical to the 3582HTA, although you will have to run about 2 PSI more boost than a 3582 to achieve similar power due to the differnece in turbine wheels. A nice upside is the 3082 HTA will spool faster than the larger turbine equipped 35R/3582 HTA. It also will spool faster than the 3065 due to the inducer tips being 2mm lower.
Great news for those of us thinking FP left us out in the cold as far as HTA's go. Now I just need to get home and send in a turbo.

I'm sure it'll be laggier than the hta3076 which is 'the 2nd best perfect turbo' for a 2.0 imho (1st being the evo3 16g :) ), def worth a try, its like the evolution of the 3065. Coolness.

I have never taken the time to try and understand the numbering of their turbos.
But you are saying a 3082 uses an 82mm compressor wheel? That just sounds huge. An SC61 is a 61mm, my S362 is a 62mm, MAPS FDSM turbo is something like 74mm I think. 82mm compressor wheel? Is there something I'm not understanding? That sounds redonk, and I would think would flow well in excess of 70lb/min.

Brandon, some companies go by inducer and some go by exducer.

Yup, a standard garret 'GT30R' is a 3071 or 3076. A standard garret 'GT35R' is a 3586. The HTA35R utilizes a smaller compressor wheel, so they actually call it the HTA3582 now. The newer HTA3586 utilizes a standard size comp wheel, but with their HTA design.
So, the HTA3082 uses the gt30 hotside with the smaller of the two hta35r compressor wheels, the 82. And yes, we are talking exducer size.
Fuk I know too much about FP's sh1t for not running any of it :P

A standard GT35R is a 3582. 61mm inducer 82mm exducer.
Garrett switched to naming compressor wheels after the bigger exducer size versus the inducer size, so all these 82, 86, 88, etc GT turbos are not that big. The inducer is the main factor in how much air the turbo can flow, since it all has to come through. Better wheel designs will make one turbo with the same same inducer as other be able to flow more air though. Generally a turbo with a bigger compressor exducer than another with the same size inducer as it will be more efficient at higher boost levels.

Thanks for the info, makes a lot more sense now.
So I wonder, is that the reason for "extended tip" on the Borg Warner comp wheels? Same inducer size, but they extend the tips outwards at the exducer to make it flow more, and broaden the efficiency range?
That's just me thinking out loud, but is that the whole theory behind Borg Warners extended tip wheels?

Ahh, shane's right, I'm wrong. A standard 35R is a 3582. The HTA3586 was made to compete with the PTE 6262, which I *believe* uses an 62mm inducer/86mm exducer compressor. Either way, FP made it to level the playing field, since the 6262 was slightly outperforming the HTA3582 on the top-end. So, the HTA3586 was born, and it p0wn3s.

awe. Now my 3065 is starting to look real old, its cool that they keep coming up with upgrades though.
