So my internet connection goes down.. again. A reoccurring problem with Charter. Call the worthless tech support at Charter.. go through the b/s steps (fyi, used to be a network engineer so I already know the issue is on their end). I'm running a cisco pix firewall in conjunction with a linux box setup so I can see the packets coming in. So they tell me to connect the modem directly to a comp.. still no packets. And I tell them, "still nothing". So then all of a sudden I see packets coming in, and the guy says "try now" He f-ing reset the signal, so it looked like the problem was my equipment! Then he tells me the problem is my router. I know this is b/s, so I give the phone to my dad so I can put everything back to how it was, and sure enough everything is working like normal, but before I can tear the guy a new one my dad freakin hung up. BTW, this isn't the first time this happened. Another time, they told us they were offering a 10 meg upgrade from our current 5 meg. So we order it, and I'm checking the connection speed daily.. still 5 meg.. get a bill from them charging us for the 10 meg line.. WTF, really? Call them up.. "Well, we don't have any 10 meg service yet, we will within the next 3 months" So freakin pissed.. I'm so ready to cause hell on that piece of shit company. They lie so blatantly, it's ridiculous.

Sounds pretty messed up, I've never had an issue with Charter in St. Cloud.

I had nothing but issues with Charter in Duluth and same for my sister in Madison.

After dealing with Charter for the last 7-8 years because there was no other choice where I lived, I have nothing good to say about them.

Just last month we switched cable and internet to a local company. The price went down alot, and the people have been very friendly to deal with.

Wow, I guess I have been pretty fortunate then.

Yea, I wish I could switch to another provider, but nothing else is in the area, freakin monopoly. I think frontier is slowly coming in, but you have to get dish if you want to get tv through them, and I'm not a fan of dish.

I know a guy that left Charter in rochester recently, he might still have some connections if you are down there.
