View Full Version : Safc Install - Rpm's Are Weird?

On Sunday the SAFC was installed in Jenny's car, And last night I finally got what I needed to fix the oil leak.

So yesterday I took it for a drive. And I noticed that the RPMS on the SAFC are way off.

basically if I have it set at 4cyl. it sits at "0" rpms till the actual rpms get to about 3500 then it registers 500rpms on the SAFC and won't go any higher

Changed it to 2cyl - it sits at "0" till about 2000 rpms hten it registures 1000rpms. and won't go any higher

Changed it to 1cyl - it registures about 500rpms less then it's actually at. But the catch is it only goes as high as 2000rpms.

the funny thing is say I'm cruising I pull up to about 4000rpms and then let off the gas. Well then the RPMs on SAFC go back to Zero. does this with any of the Cyl settings.

I have to be at atleast 20% throttle for hte RPMS even to register.

It's really hard to explain. We installed it exactly how the Apexi Sit says to install it.

Any idea's? I haven't checked the wires and it was also late when we installed it so it is possible that we got a wire mixed up. But it's been a while since i've used one and I've never actually set one up before. So maybe that's another possibility (that I set it up wrong)

I tried that and the RPMS signal was even worste.

I'd be at 2500rpms but it would only registure it as 1000rpms.

wasn't until I lowered it to 1cyl Arrow up right that I got with in 500rpms.

But what's also wierd is that the highest I've gotten the RPMS on the SAFC to go to is 2000rpms. The More cylinders I change it to the lower the highest Read RPMS are.

with Settings at 4cyl arrow up right - say my tack shows 4500rpms. My safc only reads 500

Take the revs down to 3000 still reads 500, take the revs down to 2000 still reads 500, isn't until I get to like 1500 that they number drops below 500.

I'm getting the feeling the RPMS wire is hooked up to the wrong ECU wire or something. I'll have to check the Wire/Diagram today.

This SAFC came out of my 2G and all the settings were still in it. we just changed the fuel trims back to zero.

I was thinking about initializing the SAFC but I figured I'd loose all the settings.

I would reset the afc and try setting it up by the directions. Also you should re-check the wiring. vfaq has all the wiring diagrams and wire colors(helps). Here is a link. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ecu-harness-1G.html
When you look at the diagram its looking at the back of plug. So the wires are coming out of the side your looking at.

I figured it out yesterday. Was off by 1 pin.

And Oh man did it wake the car up. I actually got excited about it. For running Stock boost control I was really supprised.

I can't wait to get the Fuel Pump in and the MBC.

I also put on the Chrome duby Dubs yesterday just because I wanted to see what it looked like. And I really like the way they look on the car.

Jenny was like - "I'm trying to go fast not slow" I was like :fworld: they look awsome on your car.

Jenny's right, 1G's and chrome don't go together.

Just wait till you see it.

For the first time ever I can actually say I like the way a 1G looks. The combo of her car color and rims. are just awsome IMO

I actually was jelious cause I don't think my 2G ever looked as good as her 1G does right now. (I know I know, I never thought I'd be saying that about any 1G)

And personally I love my 2G (besides the rust) so for me to say her 1G looks better has to tell you something.

But as always these are My opinions I know most of you performance orientated people don't like chrome just for the fact they are heavy. But for me I love this look, it changed my whole out look of this car.

Who's good with Photoshop. Can someone take a picture off my mn.dsm.org siteof my rims and then paste them onto a pictures of Jet's car or something. But lower the car to 2"

You all can see what it looks like. Hell Jet has a picture of his car right out front of my house that we could use. And it would probably look like it was really Jenny's car.
