So I finally decided to tune my car a couple of weeks ago to see what my modest 14b setup could do. This is on a 180,000 mile bone stock junkyard engine with the low performance 1990 cams.

E-*.*.. whatever shit comes out of the e85 pumps this time of year...

Green numbers were on 17 lbs of boost at 18* of timing advance. The red numbers were on 23 psi and 24* of timing advance (wouldn't make any more power past 24*) AFR's I dialed around 11.5 (on a gas scale)

The TQ output is ok, but they turbo just won't hold boost past about 5000 RPM. It drops to 16 lbs by 6500 RPM. I am not sure if the WG is getting blown open or if the housing just does not flow enough air to retain boost level? I've got a spare 14b exhaust housing that I ported that I might weld the WG shut and see if I can hold boost a little longer...

Fun stuff.

Wow, that's damn good power for a 14b! I'm seriously impressed! WOOT! Slap some HKS 272's on there and see what happens :D

I'm not seeing this, but is your car fwd or awd?

Nitrous is about the only thing you could do to make the turbo hold more boost to redline. Good numbers.

My wife's car made 298whp and 320ft/lbs FWD when she had the 14B on her car. It dropped boost the same and she was shifting pretty low in the RPMs at the track. It didn't have any kind of tuning system on it, we just let 'er buck. It would get some decent knock in 4th gear when the stock MAF would max out. I think Cher made in the 280s when his first DSM was close to stock the 14B. The good old days of running 12s with an exhaust, K&N filter and MBC. Just throw in some 110, crank the boost and hope it doesn't blow up. They do feel decently fast with all that torque.

Im impressed. those are damn good numbers, especially with the mileage on that thing. I wonder how long it will last?

Thanks for the support guys.

Sorry this is on a an AWD. I suppose it would make a little more in a FWD car. Running at this boost for about 6 weeks and it's starting to kill the turbo... it's got the dentist drill whine now. I knew this was going to happen, but really didn't care because I am building a new engine with a different turbo in about 2 months.

I just wanted to tune it because I was kind of shocked at the kinds of cars the 14b was pulling on.
