Front Prothane Insert

OK so I bought the Prothane inserts for the front and rear motor mounts on my 1G. I'm concerned about the front one. I've already asked a couple people about this, but wanted to make a thread to get more feedback before I drill things out.

I've attached a picture of the front insert, with the bolt that goes through it in the hole. That seems completely wrong to me, look how much slop is in there. The rear bolt fit very snug. This front one just seems like the hole is twice as large as it's supposed to be.

What has been mentioned was to go get a larger bolt that does fit snug, and in doing that I'd have to enlarge the holes on the bracket that is attached to the block so the larger bolt can fit through those holes as well.

Anyhow, I have searched all the sites I know of, and have not heard one mention of this anywhere. I'm wondering if I somehow received the wrong metal bushing, or just what everyone else with these has done. Leaving it as is just seems like a bad idea to me with all that slop.

It's possible you got the wrong bushing. If you leave it like it is, there will be alot of slop and the engine will still move around, defeating the purpose of the mount insert. You could go buy a bolt and drill the other holes out big enough, or you could try sending it back claiming it's wrong, and see what you get back.

I personally would just get a bigger bolt and drill it out. It wouldn't be hard and it would get the job done.

i dont remeber my bolt being that small but something is definitly wrong

Mine was like that too, I ended up putting a piece of rubber hose in the middle of the bushing, it helped to prevent some vibration also as it is softer for just a little bit.

Mine was like this too, I can't remember what I did, I think I just put it in like that. I just put the motor and stored it in my garage so it hasn't been driven, I was planning on drilling it out in the spring when it's warm again, but I'm liking the rubber hose idea.

Prothane called me today, and told me that is the way it was designed to be. Most the others apparently fit real snug, and they left this one loose to allow for allignment of everything else.
