When I was young and stupid (as opposed to just being stupid now....) and lived in Germany I had a 1g CRX 1.6 5 speed. The thing with a full tank of gas weighed less than a metric ton (996 Kg) and would do 175kph on a flat highway. There wasn't much between me and a potential bridge pillar other than the puny motor up front.
