Well I just put a motor in my car was really excitied to start it. I bought a motor from a salvage yard in Co and had it shipped up here. Well I got the motor in the car and tried to start it and the plugs kept fowling out with oil and stuff. Well to make a long story short the head is horribly warped and the headgasket is blown and leaking oil into the cylanders. I did a compression test and I got 25 to 30 pounds of compression from all four cylanders. I pressurized one cylander and air was blowing out of all 4. I called the yard and they said to pull the motor and ship it back at my cost. I was only asking for half my money back to cover the reman of the head and gaskets. My credit card company is disputing them and hopfully I can get my $650 back plus shipping. I am so pissed and angry!!!!!

You honestly couldn't just find one locally?

To be 100% honest i really couldnt. I work at a salvage yard and did locates and tried car-part.com. On the salvage yard locate there are NO engines local and on car-part.com there are none also. There were none local at all. I didnt know about this website and was just trying to get the car done. The one engine that is on Craigslist right now I would of purchased but I had this engine at the time. I am not really that savvy with these cars and really didnt know where to get a engine.

There's one at Hugo Auto, and one at ATV North Branch. Sometimes the locators don't work this is why I sit with my yard list and a phone when I'm looking for parts.

why wouldn't you test it before you put it in?

I dont think Hugo Auto has one at all. That is where I work. The only eclipse that is there is my eclipse that is in the shop. My car is a 1996 and the neighbor (ARK) has a 1994 or earlier. I am not doing the 6 bolt conversion right now because i need the car to be mild tempered and not deal with wiring problems.

How would I test this motor out of the car? The only way to get a compression test os by cranking over the motor with the starter. The starter and the flywheel for the starter is mounted on the torque coverter. I really couldnt crank the motor over enough needed to do a good compression test.

you really only need to crank it over 4 compression strokes so as long as you can hook up a starter which isn't that hare and have a fully charged battery you can do a good compression test. you could have done a leakdown test as well. that on top of a compression test will give you a better idea of the condition of the engine and what's wrong with it
