I bought a 92 talon tsi with no tbelt. must have snapped. wanting to know what I will all need to look at befor starting it. Im replacing the oil pump this weekend because it will not turn without lots of force. crank shaft spins. cam spins. everything but the oil pump so Im lead to believe thats my main issue. what could have all got messed up if the oil pump stopped, and the timing belt snapped? Im asking for a check list or any helpful info. thanks, Krayola
Pull head replace valves and check pistons.

If the timing belt snapped while the car was running, its pretty much guaranteed you have some (at the least) bent valves.
a compression test would be in order i guess.

You need a new head at least. End of story. If your oil pump spins like crap, get a new one. Have fun taking the front cover off in the car with balance shafts
The balance shaft on the oil pump shaft is probably what is bad, not the oil pump itself. You will need to replace the bearings for the rear balance shaft and probably the shaft itself. You can bypass that if you do a stubby balance shaft elimination. Your valves will be toast, so look for a new head or if you have plans for this one, put in oversized valves and get the head rebuilt now. Have someone knowledgable look at the pistons to see how big the dents are.

I've seen several oil pumps seize from lack of oil to the journal surface, especially on the cheap aftermarket ones. I always use only Mitsu front covers and I port out the oil feeds slightly. Good insurance.
