DSMs vs. other cars, your other car maybe.

I've considered other cars, but for the $ you spend, a DSM or 3S is tough to beat. (on the HP/$ scale)

I've considered:
E36 M3
Miata
Before I bought my Stealth I was looking at F-body's.

The M3 and Miata have been after starting AutoX. I've never driven a BMW, I have been for one ride in a 330Xi. I got more feedback sitting in the passenger seat than I do in the driver seat of my Stealth. Very much a drivers car.

But I've found it's not so much the car itself, as it is what you do with it. Be sure to enjoy what ever you have. I enjoy mine most on an Auto X course so far.

Keep the DSM. I am going to be in this very same predicament pretty soon. I have my Mustang which is my DD right now, but soon I will be done with my master's and should be able to find a respectable job. With a new job comes a new DD. Also the dsm should be out on the streets this spring at the latest so I can start to focus on my mustang. Honestly the best I can say is look for something as opposite as your DSM as possible and something that also has a lot of support. FD with an ls1 are getting cheap or find a shell and swap it over yourself. '96-'98 Mustangs are getting dirt cheap and with a decently built engine make some serious power when boosted. This is the route I plan to go. Some think they are ugly, but I like mine. They are pretty light and have more support than most cars. The chassis has been the same all the way through the fox bodies so pretty much all the chassis components that were a problem have fixes. And the main reason I am keeping mine is so I can have a Blowzilla. In the end do what you want, I'd just keep the DSM anyway. Yours is way too nice of a car to get rid of.

I'd take a branch off Matt's suggestion and build a twin turbo 280Z

My parents have a 96 Mustang GT that I drive on occasion, and the keys are going to be handed over to me once they pay it off. It's fun, but it's not the Talon.

My 'other' car is anna's GLI at the moment. it's a 2.0 turbo, but just FWD. Seems like I am at 'the wall' of what to do with the car at the moment: intake, exhaust (cat delete downpipe is all), uprated bov, and a chip/tune. The car makes about 200whp, and is fun as hell. It's a different ride than the evo, that's for sure. Ride is more comfy, it cruises at 80mph on the freeway like nobody's business, the car just wants to go long distances at high speed. Handling is decent out of the box, steering is pretty responsive, stock all season tires are just ok. Trunk is massive, all four seats are comfy and roomy.

All in all for about $20k, it's a great car for Anna, and for me to have a little fun with. I have an old 83 vw gti that was my first car so I have some vw luv in the blood, this kinda fills that gap for me. Ultimately that's what I think 'other' cars should be for, making you happy. You will be hard pressed to find a car that can make more power or smiles than a dsm/evo per dollar invested. So yea, keep the mitsu and find something else that makes you smile as well.

I have thought a lot about getting a second car in the next year or so (well third, you know what I mean), but in all honesty, my gut reaction was to just get another evo! I could build the crap out of it and keep my car for the DD, or vice versa. But, when it came down to it, I'd rather just build mine and drive mine!

Hope you have deep pockets, sounds like this could get expensive pretty quick :) Have you considered a 996tt? twin turbo 6-cyl, AWD..and a lot easier to work on than a 3/S....one of those is still in the back of my mind...

^Its my dream car, but for the money no thanks. I don't see buying anything crazy expensive until I have no more mortgage.
Another thing is you know that OUTLAW Vs ZX10 video, that is the guys daily he drives it year round in colorado thru the snow and everything.
I know "twotalons" on here drives his car everyday and that kind of inspires me to do it, because well I love my car enough to where I want to drive it everyday. I plan on POR15-ing the whole car to stop it from rusting and I won't drive it in the salt as long as I have the corolla.

I really like the fact that I built my car and that's why I'm having a hard time finding something else.
I like the throttle response that the turbo cars lack but all the ones I have driven have kind of a drop off. I would rather have a car that gains more and more power the harder you push it.

My other fun car is a 1970 'Cuda that I have owned for 12 years now (i am only 26). I bought the car with my life savings. I love that car and I am into old cars more then newer ones, but I like my eclipse. (even though I have not even driven it yet)
