Is there any type of warranty on these? Rings are shot on mine.

I don't know if it's ok for me to post this, is there anything you did to cause the rings to fail versus an assembly error?

Basically bought it from a member and it was tuned by LSE. Never really ran quite right and would blow smoke once in a while. Got worse and worse until I finally did a dry/wet compression test on it. I personally didn't do anything to make it like it is, but figured I would ask before I start throwing more money at it (which I was planning on).

Unfortunately warrantying short blocks is very hard to do, especially so far down the line. We definitely stand behind our work and in the event that a short block of ours was to fail due to assembly we would definitely repair or replace it, but a failure like that would occur almost immediately. In our experience most short block failures are caused by lack of oiling, overheating, detonation, or other abuse. Sounds like yours had a rough life before you got it...

It's one thing to maybe ask for a warranty on something you bought directly from a vendor, it's something different to ask for one on a used part. I'd just hone and re-ring it if the cylinder walls look okay.

That's what I am planning on doing, figured I would inquire before tearing it all apart though. Thanks.

One more thing on warrantying shortblocks. It is also very hard to warranty a short block when it crosses shops. If break in procedures are not followed according to the manufactures specifications, it is difficult to see how everything was used.
Also one more thing, just because a car was tuned, doesn't mean it ran perfect before it was tuned, or ran great after it was tuned if parts changed.

Figure I would give an update.

Turns out (99% sure) the shortblock is okay, the head had a very bad blown headgasket according the machinist. Said from working on it, the head must have just been put on hand tight with a ratchet and called good, didn't torque it. Plus, the valve stem seals were pretty bad on there which was my oil problem out of the exhaust ports.

I ordered rings from you guys that had to be special ordered from Mahle, is there any way to return those or since it was a special order, the sale is final?

We can touch base with Mahle and see if they will take them back, but if they do there will likely be a hefty restocking fee :( Let me know.

Well if you could check on that, that would be great. I doubt I will use them so any money back is better than having the rings sitting here.
