Well today I bit the bullet and finally went and got a new receiver

Got a pretty good deal on it I think, Just curious what you all have. One thing I didn't like is this doesn't have a plug in for a non powered sub. Only has the component style plug, So I just tapped into one of the front speaker ports.

Sony receivers are wonderful. I've got an STR-K700 myself.

And yeah, powered subs suck.

Spend the cash for a powered sub. My cuz bought a sweet 1000 rms one You can hear it bump from 4 or 5 blocks away!!!

I'm pretty happy with it so far, Just ended up doing the 7.1. I only have a 5.1 set up right now but its pretty easy to just pick up two extra speakers. Had to order up another HDMI cable though, Kinda nice this thing has 4 in and only 1 out though. Not sure what I'd even use the other ports for, PS3 has one and thats pretty much all I have right now. One nice thing about this model it just doesn't pass through the HDMI signal, It does both video and audio in just the HDMI cable. Apparently I would have to have a optical to do the audio with the model below this one.

I dunno about that. I kinda like them and every decent hometheater system or speaker system seems to have them.... I have 2 going in my room;a 250w KRK 10" hitting at about 36hz and a 500w Infinity 12" hitting down to around 20hz, and thinking about building up another. Reciever is a Yamaha HTR-5490 then its Definitve Technology for the front and rear towers and center.

Yeah, but half the time, I'm not listening to music at a high enough volume to trigger a powered sub, even with the sensitivity all the way up. A non-powered sub doesn't have that problem.
