Sounds like the cop wanted to get you for something else and settled on loud exhaust. Were you hot dogging it right before he started following you?
Glad to hear it was just a warning. The loud exhaust laws are so dumb and subjective.

I've accepted the fact that with a car like ours, we'll be profiled. Trucks with exhausts twice as loud as mine as well as motorcycles that can be heard for over a mile don't get a second look while I get routinely followed for no reason.

Exhaust noise laws are bullshit, we all know it. After hearing of people getting hassled for having stock exhaust on their Evo it's only a matter of time before we're all bothered about it, stock or modified.

I've actually been contemplating getting a chambered muffler to quite my car down. I haven't been pulled over yet but I know it's probably just a matter of time. I know going with some sort of chambered muffler may affect my power slightly so I'm trying to look at all my options. But right now as it sits, 3" straight through muffler with 3" resonator is still a bit louder then I wanted it.

I have a 3" 3-chamber offset muffler with a 3.5" tip to go on it.
By doing this i hope to get away from the 5" tip (doesn't look like it) which i am sure i get judged for and the loudness.

I got pulled over 2 years for no front plate here in WI by a state trooper. At the same time he told me that you can't change the exhaust with anything other than OEM. The very next day I went and bought a digital decibel meter from Radio Shack and keep it in my muffler. WI doesn't have a stated decibel law but I copied off California's. It's so many RPM @ x amount of feet from the exhaust if I remember. I keep the meter in my glove box in case I have to show him up.

He was just testing to see if the kind of exhaust you have fit in for what he have. LOL.
