New Welder...

Hey guys,
I got a new welder today. Just something fun to build some exhausts fab up some new shit and such.

I know its a cheaper one but it will do the job and has a gas hookup for welding aluminum.
The Problem:
I kinda thought this may be a problem but though... They would likely say something if it needed a special power plug right..... WRONG.
The plug was not included and says it requires a 3 prong, 220 VAC, Polarized twistlock power cord plug. and needs a NEMA L6-30 or equivalent.
WTF?!?! I live in an apartment where they only have the normal outlets. Is there anything i can do to use this?
I suppose i cant just take out the normal outlet in the garage and install one of these can i?
Please serious answers guys, i really dont need to burn up the house trying something im not sure about.

220 volt is very different from your normal outlets. Do not try to use them!

Do you have an electric stove at your apartment? A lot of high draw electric appliances use 220 volt so you may have an outlet for one of those.

I have a gas stove. But even if i did have an electric stove i would still be SOL because the stove is in the Kitchen. :)

Sounds like you might be F'd in the A... Especially being in an apartment building. You NEED a 220v power source, regular power through your house is 110, except on major apliances usually. I've seen some garages with 220v outlets, but I can't imagine they would have one in ever garage at an apartment complex...

Do you have A/C? Like a window unit. Those are usually 220v. Like stated before, you might be SOL...

EDIT: Thats pretty fucking cheap for that sized unit. Hope it holds up!

On a dryer or electric range. They do have extention cords up to 20 feet but they are very expensive. I think your SOL. Take it back and get a 110v. I have a 140 hobart that works great.

Believe me you arent going to want to use flux-core to weld anything. Its super super messy and looks like ass usually.

Get a welder built to use gas.

Word up on the Non flux core welding, and just get like a Hobart Handler for a 110volt outlet, it will weld up what ever you have in mind out of mild steel or stainless (with the right wire and a little welding under your belt). Also for the Miller units they now have a spool gun setup for the smaller MIG welders for welding aluminum, but for this stick with TIG its much better to just pay someone who knows what they are doing.

Flux core welding, it just should not be done, unless you are welding with a lot of amps (over ~300amps, then dual shielding welding is required).
