Just wondering how many engine mounts I can take out of the car safely at 1 time. I have the drivers side, and front mount already out. I am wondering if I could get away with taking the back mount out also. I have the drivers side of the engine supported underneath.
Anyone have a few tips for getting the back mount out?

i wouldnt take out any more. The whole engine will drop considerably if you only leave the tranny side in.
To take the back one out i suggest taking out the bolts mounting the mount to the tranny first. then takeing out the bolt going through the mount. Support the tranny with a pump jack to take some of the pressure off of the mount.

He has a 1G. On the 1G there are 3 mounts attached to the block and only 1 on the transmission.
I would not take out any more mounts unless the engine is being held by an engine hoist. The rear motor-mount on the 1G is the biggest PITA. I would have 3 the other mounts in place before removing/replacing that one.

Its been many years so I don't remember exactly, but I recall getting at the bolts from above the engine bay. Are you just replacing the mounts or what are you doing?

I am filling them with cutting board plastic like the v-faq, then covering it with window weld. It has worked out quite nicely, I just wanted to do as many as possible because you have to wait for them to dry. I think I am going to lay on the engine for the back mount when I get my car off the ramps.

Has anyone taken out the back mount and then the side mount at the same time? 2birds with one stone is what I am trying to do.

I wouldnt reccomend it unless you have support under there, since there is only the one side mount for the tranny.

I think I would suport it then take the back out and then the side. I am not a sober gopher. Here is what I did with the front mount.
