Decent read, and I certainly agree that electric vehicles have a place....But anything scientific from mythbusters sucks. I love the show, but watching it just annoys the shit out of me. And lead batteries FTL!!!

Electric motors do have advantages. 100% torque at 0 RPM!!!

I looked at building an electric. It's pretty expensive to go fast. $2-4k for motor controller, $4-7k for motors, $5-10k for batteries, plus all the other misc stuff you need. And its hard to go real fast because the batteries are so heavy.

They are very cool though, check out the White Zombie.

IMHO, electric cars are a waste of time and money until a new battery development is made. There isn't a battery on earth right now that is light enough, holds a long enough charge, is compact enough and has a long enough life to really make for an alternative to the good old Otto cycle engine.
