for the EVOMN GO-KART THROW DOWN

Yeah, I know May 11th is Mother's Day, but just tell her you'll see her in the afternoon. Racing comes first! With an attitude like that, it's no wonder I'm still single. :p Actually the 11th is the only Sunday in May that both the track and I have free, so that's what you get.

In case you haven't been there, let me assure you that Stockholm has the BEST karting in the area, way better than Pro-Kart Indoor. Check out the photo above and visit www.stockholmkartingcenter.com. This beautiful outdoor track has 13 turns, up and down hill, with grass run-off. The "Intrepid" racing karts from Italy scream around the corners with 9hp motors (compared to 6.5hp at Pro-Kart) and fatter tires.

We will have a private party with the track reserved for TWO FULL HOURS for our group of 20 people max, with only the occasional wait for the season pass racer guys. We will race from 10am to noon, so please arrive by 9:30 to sign waivers and get suited up. If you are late you will miss track time. No make-ups will be available.

We'll have several race events including a Formula One-style standing start, rolling start, inverted field start, meatball flag regroup start, and whatever other races we can think of. I'm open to suggestions!

Cost will be $60 per person. Price includes generous refreshments, helmet/collar/jacket rental, and two hours of sweet sweet track time followed by the awards ceremony with nice trophies for the first three places. You can bring your own full-face helmet, neck collar, and padded racer jacket or thick leather jacket if you have them, but don't worry if you don't.

The first twenty PAID people will be racing. Sorry I cannot hold spots without payment. If you pay and later have to cancel, I will try to fill your spot, but I can't guarantee a refund, so you may have to find a replacement person yourself.

Two payment options:

$60 check made out and mailed to Tom Hazen, 11434 Minnetonka Mills Road, Minnetonka, MN 55305

$62 PayPal payment (includes PayPal fee) to my account with this email address: myliberty@comcast.net

We ask everyone to maintain gentlemanly (and ladylike) behavior at the track. No overly aggressive driving, no hard bumping. The corner belongs to the driver who takes the racing line and gets there first. No T-boning or dive-bombing in the corners. If T-Turbo starts bleeding again we'll have to stop the race and call 9-1-1. And we really don't want Sarah to lose another contact lens (although it was kinda fun where she found it).

If it's raining (or snowing!) on Sunday morning we will not run, but will reschedule.

I will be operating the infamous Helmet Cam. We will review the footage at the Red Rooster in Long Lake afterwards with burgers and beverages.
Note that this is just an informal outing among friends, not an official event of any one club. All good sports are welcome. Go ahead and forward this invite to any cool people you know.

Directions to Stockholm Karting Center:
Travel time from the 394/494 interchange is about one hour, so plan accordingly. Take 394 West out of the Cities, continuing straight as it becomes 12 West. Pass through Long Lake, Orono, and Maple Plain. In Delano watch for the "12 West Detour" signs to stay on 12 West. Continue through Montrose, Waverly, and Howard Lake. The track is about three miles west of Howard Lake on your left. If you get to beautiful downtown Cokato you went too far.

Please feel free to post back with any questions. See you at the track!

Well, I have 14 guys signed up already, and they love their mothers just as much as you do! :-)

Not sure when I'll plan another party at Stockholm. The rest of May is shot, then in June I have the hillclimb and the airport speed run. And don't forget country road tours. Might get back to kart racing in July or August.
