So I have been running alky injection in my car for over a year, and the entire time I have been paying $8+ per gallon for Denatured alcohol. This is buying it in bulk, 5-gallon drums. 1 Gallon containers are like $14/gallon.
It donned on me yesterday that several local shops sell E98, and quite cheaply I might add. What is E98? It is just like E85, but 98% ethanol, instead of 85% (or less, depending on the season). So why not run this in my Aquamist system?
I have heard of pumps going bad from people running E85, but would E98 be better? Anyone have any experience with this?
The car seems really happy with the E98 injection so far.

Well I did more research, and I thought forever that the Klean-strip SLX Denatured Alcohol that I have been running for the past 16 months was 99% ethyl alcohol, but in fact it is even better!
I discovered (thank you SlowCar on evoM):
"the parts affected are the valves(EPDM) and diaphragm(santoprene) in the shurflo pump and seals in the solenoid valve
methanol and ethanol = alcohols - R-OH
gas = hydrocarbon"
gasoline eats away at the above listed parts and has even brought aquamist kits to their knees!
Kleen-Strip SLX Denatured Alcohol is:
45-50% Methanol
45-50% Ethyl Alcohol
1-4% Methyl isobutyl ketone
No wonder I love this stuff so much, I'm dumping out my E98 blend and going back to just straight alky. I've considered switching to 100% methanol recently, but now that I know I've been running it and the denatured alky works, I think I'll go with what I know :)

Well, it's only denatured so you can't drink it (you could, but it would kill you), but I would think that the 100% stuff would work just as well, barring any negative effects to the hardware. I could be wrong.
It would be interesting to see how the 50% methanol/50% ethanol mix would compare to 98% ethanol.

as far as I can tell, it seems to work very similar. Power is good, no knock, and 27-28psi no problem.

Let me know if you want some E98, I still have about 40 gallons of it and I'm planning on just running E85 this year.
