Hey guys I just picked up a 97 gst spyder fwd. My first gear pops out and grinds like crazy so I've been driving it on 2nd gear. I havent checked the fluids yet but I just got the clutch done at the shop. All the other gears work flawlessly. Is it time for a new tranny?

or a rebuild, sounds like the synchros are done in gear 1.

Check simple things first.

I thought I was going to need a new transmission also but shift linkage was loose. Popped out of gear like you said but all of the other gears worked well.

Just check to see if yours is loose. Try shifter bushings also.

Mine did the same thing when I first got my AWD. I checked everything, adjusted linkage, got a new shifter, etc...

The only thing that helped was a stage 2 TRE rebuild.

The syncro/hub sliders are worn out. You need a rebuild, there isn't any other "easy" fix. www.sheptrans.com I have a Shep stage 3, and love it!

Yep, probably need a rebuild. You might be able to adjust the linkage and limp by with it for a bit.

Hey guys thanks for all the comments! I will look into bandaging it up for now. I really dont want to invest too much yet because I might sell this in a year or so. I just need a daily driver for a couple of months until next fall. Thats when I'll be rebuilding the tranny or selling the car.

This just came to mind, if your interested my buddy has a brand new in the box TRE Stage 1 never been used. I do not know what he is willing to let it go for, but its a very nice transmission.
