View Full Version : intake dilemma

Right now I am running an injen intake that hooks up right to the stock 2g mas and then has a 2.5 inch outlet to my 50 trim. I really hate the fact that my the outlet on my intake is smaller than the intake on my turbo.
I was thinking about going with a maft and then running a filter right on my turbo or using another 3'' intake pipe I've got. After reading a little I got the vibe that not too many people think the maft is really worth the money. I'm running dsmlink so from what I understand, I don't necessarily need a maft for more advanced tuning capabilities.
The only other option I could think of was to have an intake custom made. This seems a little pricey as well considering I'd need a recirc pipe welded on. I'd also need a coupler that goes for a 3'' circle to the oval shape of the 2g mas.
That's about all I can think of. I'd like to know what other people are doing and any advice you guys might have. Thanks

What I did to get the injen intake to fit my 20g is cut it up before the bend and put a 45 degree coupler the nessicary size on there so it was more open. Here is a photo.

Is the injen intake really 3'' all the way down until the bottom bend? My car is in storage otherwise I'd just go look. This sounds like a very simple alternative.
I'm still open to other's advice.

The 1G I drive has a 4" intake on the turbo and the 2G MAS on it is essentially a 4" also, just oval shaped. A normal round coupler works fine. I have a 3" intake pipe, so I am in the same boat, the MAS side on mine works fine, but then into the bigger turbo is kinda stupid.

So you just used a circle coupler and clamped it tight around the mas?

This is a setup that would probably work nicely for you. That is a pte scm50, and those are just round couplers on a 2g mas.

Great find thanks! I think i might try that with the 3'' intake I have. Unfortunately it's shorter than the fp ones so I might have to try and angle it downwards because it doesn't quite get up high enough. Not sure if the mas will stretch that far down though.
btw, where have you guys remounted your ecu if you have long route piping like myself? I know some people just wire it inside their car, but I'm not that hardcore nor do I have that much time on my hands. Right now it's just kinda shoved down and I really hate it.

Relocate the ECU? I think you must mean something else unless your intercooler piping goes inside the car. Do you mean the fuse box?

The ECU is behind your radio. You don't normally ever have to move the fusebox, except for looks.

haha oops. It'd be a little tricky and pointless to relocate your ecu huh haha.
Here's where my fusebox is now. It couldn't stay in the stock position because my ic pipe runs right where it should go. I'd like to mount it right where my air filter is in this pic but idk if It will reach.
