So yesturday I decided i was going to try and set my PC up with a Media Server software so i could use the Media Server Function of the PS3 to watch videos and music and pics and such.
I highly suggest doing this if you have a lot of movies on your computer and would like to watch them on your tv without having to burn it or hook the computer directly to the tv (or in my case, run a vga to the projector and then figure out a way to plug for sound into the reciever. lame)

I downloaded a program called TwonkyVision. Its a little application that has a 30 day free trial with full capabilities. (I will definatly be buying this). Setup was quick and painless (exept i was having a problem with the server losing connection after 30 minutes, all you have to do is Disable ???? Messages and it fixes the problem) All you do is set up in the media server interface what folders you want to share, it will automatically populate the media server with the videos you will be sharing/streaming.
Went to the PS3 and clicked on search for media servers, it found it, went into it and it listed all of my movies, quickly and easily played one of the movies and it was full quality, great sound, purely AWESOME. Check it out if you guys are bored.
Just another PS3 Positive over xbox 360. lol

Its all in the home projects thead. Its a killer setup, i love it, and especailly because for the projector, screen, 7.1 surround sound, cables and HDDVD player i only spent around $1500 and it was all brand new. And all off of craigslist except the screen which i built myself from home depot wood and blackout material from a local fabric shop. Its 8' x 4.5' which equates to 110" diagnal.

I build theaters for a living, I can answer some questions if needed.

Why would you pay for a program when you can share for free with WMP 11? You can just go right into the media player settings and allow access, go back to the PS3 and bam, good to go.

yeah but the WMP 11 server will not share all of the formats, ESPECIALLY avi.

Really? I thought it supported .AVI format was supported with the last update. I could be very wrong about that though.

Pretty sure it isnt. You can play them on media player but it wouldnt even show up in the list of movies on the server with the PS3.

I've been using twonkymedia for my PS3 and it works great for the first day. after that all the music tracks get mixed up and I lose all my video. if I uninstall twonkymedia and reintall it it works fine for a day.

Any Ideas what could be causing this or any fixes?
80gb PS3 and compaq desktop running Vista. W/linksys router. My Laptop works flawlessly with XP. Desktop and PS3 are wired Laptop Wireless.
